Fecal sludge management is crucial to achieve inclusive sanitation outcomes. Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Programme (TNUSSP), since its launch in 2015, has been supporting the Government of Tamil Nadu in scaling up fecal sludge management solutions.

The Programme provides technical assistance to the local, regional, and state governing bodies for implementing and operationalising fecal sludge treatment facilities, streamlining de-sludging services, and capacity building of multiple stakeholders, among others.

The reports highlight TNUSSP’s efforts in fostering quality assurance, strengthening institutional arrangements for sustaining operations and maintenance of treatment facilities, and positioning Fecal Sludge Treatment Plants as resource centres to increase multi-stakeholder engagement.
