Tamil Nadu was the first Indian state to issue Septage Management Operative Guidelines in 2014. These guidelines promote regular cleaning of septic tanks, transport, treatment, reuse, and scientific disposal of fecal sludge. TNUSSP is at the forefront of the implementation of these policies and actions that enable scaling-up of sanitation innovations and making clean water and sanitation accessible across urban Tamil Nadu.
