To incorporate fecal septage management (FSM) into the current sanitation services, a pilot FSTP was constructed in Karunguzhi to serve the needs of Karunguzhi and the adjacent municipality of Maduranthagam. The FSTP can treat septage collected from about 10,000 households in Karunguzhi and Maduranthagam. The responsibility for operation and maintenance of the FSTP is being transitioned from the ULB to a private operator. A draft service level agreement (SLA) for Karunguzhi FSTP’s operation and maintenance has also been prepared to assist in smooth operations.
