Trichy has a large number of private desludging operators. A study was conducted early in the programme to gain an overall perspective on the desludging market with the aim of improving efficacy of the sanitation services provided.

As with most other places in the state, Trichy too has an open dumping challenge. While the city currently registers desludging operators, the system is unable to prevent unsafe disposal of septage. In an attempt to better regulate the collection and conveyance of septage, we have piloted a GPS-enabled monitoring system in the city. In addition, a standard license agreement (SLA) has been developed to regulate and streamline the collection and conveyance process across the state.
