Trichy: Trichy is one of four cities across the country selected under the city wide inclusive sanitation (CWIS) project to sanitation and waste water management. However, underestimating the significance of CWIS to improve the Swachh Survekshan 2020 ranking, the urban local body is not giving the attention to the project to improve the skills of sanitary officials and workers with the civic body.

In the sensitisation meeting organised by the CWIS to promote fecal sludge management (FSM) on Saturday, a crucial parameter in Swachh ranking, the civic body preferred to send minimal number of field workers and sanitary supervisors.

While the event highlighted the need for better septage management, such as streamlining the flawed design of septic tanks causing pollution in the water bodies, Trichy Corporation did not send junior engineers or sanitary officers to the session.

As per Swachh Survekshan 2020, FSM is a key parameter to grade how a city treats waste water.
