IIHS spearheaded a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Gender, Equity, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) in Sanitation in collaboration with National Institute for Urban Affairs (NIUA) and National Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (NFSSM) Alliance partners, on 20th and 21st May at Dr. R. S. Tolia Uttarakhand Academy of Administration (ATI), Nainital, Uttarakhand.
This is the first of three trainings, as part of a series of training modules IIHS is developing with NIUA on urban sanitation.
This recent ToT equipped participants to:
– Apply a GEDSI lens to sanitation,
– Integrate GEDSI in sanitation planning and service delivery,
– Explore fiscal innovations such as gender budgeting,
– Understand connections between gender-based violence and WASH, and
– Ensure safe, inclusive workplaces, especially for sanitation workers
The training was attended by officers from Uttarakhand’s Urban Development Directorate, representatives from Haridwar, Dehradun, Ramnagar and Haldwani ULBs, and members of the NFSSM Alliance.
