On 14 November 2024, IIHS-TNUSSP organised a comprehensive Fecal Sludge Management (FSM) training for approximately 50 Assistant Engineers from the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department (RDPRD). The session took place at the State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (SIRD&PR) in Maraimalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu.

The training enhanced the engineers’ understanding of fecal sludge management processes and their significance in improving rural sanitation systems. It provided in-depth explanations of best practices, Operational Guidelines (OG), and technical aspects of effective sludge treatment and management.

As part of the training, the participants visited the Chengalpattu Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP). This site visit offered a practical learning experience, where engineers observed the functioning of the treatment facility and interacted with TNUSSP Technical Support Unit (TSU) experts.

The hands-on guidance provided during the visit further enriched their knowledge and equipped them to implement sustainable sanitation solutions in their respective jurisdictions.
