On 22 September 2024, an exposure visit and orientation session was held in Chengalpattu region on sustaining the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of Fecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTP) and regional FSM Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). 

Jointly organised by the Office of the Regional Directorate of Municipal Administration (RDMA), Chengalpattu, and the Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Programme – Technical Support Unit (TNUSSP-TSU), the session was facilitated by Sivaraj and Prithivi Mohan of IIHS.

The training focused on safety protocols, effective management procedures for the treatment plant, and key indicators for monitoring the performance and operations of the FSTP and its cluster. The session was chaired by the Sanitary Officer of Chengalpattu Municipality and a total of 30 participants attended the orientation session followed by the exposure visit to the Chengalpattu FSTP.

The participants included representatives from four Urban Local Bodies (Virudhachalam Municipality, Chengalpattu Municipality, Karunguzhi Town Panchayat, and Pennadam Town Panchayat), Sanitary Officers, Sanitary Inspectors, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Supervisors, SBM Animators, FSTP Operators and Regional SBM Project Implementation Unit (PIU) team.
