The joint 21st AfWASA International Congress and Exhibition and the 7th International Faecal Sludge Management Conference was held from February 19 to 23, 2023 at Abidjan with the theme of: Acting for Sustainable Resource Management and Access to Water and Sanitation Services for all in Africa. IIHS-TNUSSP is back with the fourth edition of the We Speak Too seminar, and you are invited!

A multi-city series of curated seminars – “We speak too, by Sanitation Workers,” co-organised by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements and the Alliance of Indian Waste Pickers, provides a platform for sanitation workers playing various roles in various urban contexts to come together to narrate their stories, challenges, and experiences for diverse audiences.

The seminar series was previously held in Bangalore, Mumbai and Dehradun and this time we’re bringing this unique session to the City of Lakes – Bhopal!

Block your calendars! IIHS-TNUSSP is back with the third edition of We Speak Too, by Sanitation Workers seminar and this time it’s happening in the picturesque city of Dehradun!

The seminar series seeks to create a space for sanitation workers to tell their stories and share their aspirations. Six sanitation workers, working in different sectors, will be coming together to voice their opinions, challenges and concerns on the theme “The City and Us: In Search of Work”.

The 2022 Water and Health Conference, organised by The Water Institute, University of North Carolina (UNC) was held from 24 – 28th October 2022 at North Carolina, US. Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS)-led Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Programme (TNUSSP) conducted three side events and four poster presentations at the conference.

• Institutionalising periodic desludging of community and public toilets in Trichy
• Private de-sludging markets: Does a one-size approach fit all?
• Improvement of household-scale disinfection of onsite sanitation systems using chlorine tablet
• Feasibility of bacteria inoculum bio-digester model for upgrading onsite sanitation systems
